It’s no secret that we really love Squalane. So much so that we decided one option was just not enough. Our two formulas, The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane and The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Hemi-Squalane, are 100% must-have additions to your skincare routine, and here’s why:
Squalane is a natural hydrocarbon that helps to minimize loss of hydration and improve suppleness. Unlike many plant oils, Squalane is non-greasy and non-comedogenic.
The difference between both products is simply the consistency and skin-feel upon application and molecular weight. The benefits of healthy hydration remain the same. ????
???? Hemi-Squalane is essentially half the molecular weight of Squalane. As a result, it is incredibly light in feel and more spreadable than the Squalane. This can also be applied on the hair to help reduce frizz and enhance hair shine. It is a great option for anyone who would prefer something lighter than the Squalane and/or would like to apply this on their hair to tame hair frizz.
???? Squalane is slightly heavier in spreadability, but still very lightweight. This can be applied on the skin as well as hair. This would suit anyone who would prefer something a bit heavier than the Hemi-Squalane, which almost feels as thin as water.
Important PS. We love all the sharks in the oceans (and some freshwater lakes and rivers), and we wouldn’t dream of harming them (they’re an important part of maintaining a healthy, well-functioning ecosystem). Squalane is not “Squalene” (which it is often confused for). Our Squalane is derived from sugarcane and beets, and never sharks. ????????

A lightweight 100% natural hydrator – Squalane is naturally found in our hair but our bodies produce less as we age – leading to drier hair that is more easily prone to breakage. Added topically, squalane helps to prevent hydration loss, add shine, reduce breakage, and protect hair from heat damage. The lightweight, oily texture of this serum makes it perfect for applying to damp hair before blow-drying.
Multi-use: Apply to skin after cleansing and before moisturising to boost hydration
